26 Years
Tuesday, March 7th, 2006I know I ought to update the title of my blog but I don’t think I will just yet. I had a great 26th birthday and I want to thank everyone who made it really special.
First I want to thank Fox for showing 2 hours of 24. (They needed to do something to make up for blacking out all the MLB.TV games on saturday afternoons in the summer.)
My new group of really great friends from Boston and NYC who make weekends at Killington really special gave me a birthday celebration as if we had been friends for 10 years. I had a great time partying saturday night at the Pickle Barrel, but the day of skiing Pico in the sun on Sunday was truly special. If I hadn’t been stupid and left my CF card in my laptop saturday night, I would have some great pictures,;you’ll just have to take my word for it. I liked all the bday emails and messages I got at work from my Killington friends. I also really appreciate the little celebration I had at work today. It was great break after a first day of interviewing candidates. It was really great to receive so many phone calls and cards from friends and family: my sister, my parents, Mrs. Downey, Teddy Downey and My Dossie (Lauren’s Aunt) and the Janis family. My oldest friend, Andrew Janis called me at 11:15…he knew there was a reason he couldn’t sleep.
Finally, and most importantly, Lauren did countless wonderful things for me including cooking a wonderful dinner, baking cupcakes, buying me all my favorite foods and drinks and getting me a really cool Roots Torino Olympics shirt. It really helped with my post-olympic depression.
It seems to me that every four years 98,2002,2006 big changes take place in my life corresponding to the Winter Olympics and the World Cup, my two favorite sports events. I seem to finish one big thing and start another. 98 was High School to College, 02 was College to IBM, 06 is Masters to PhD (maybe ??). Who knows what 2010 will bring but I know I will be going to the Vancouver/Whistler, BC Olympic games and I will be turning 30. As the guy who does the Heavenly (Lake Tahoe) snow forecast writes, “We will be watching….”
